Tree Removal in the County Seat, Orange, VA

Orange is the county seat of Orange County, Virginia, a town of about 4,900 people 19.5 road miles and 30 minutes south of Culpeper on US-15 at Route 20. The railroad arrived in 1847, the town incorporated in 1872, and the 1859 Italian Villa courthouse joined the National Register in 1979. Madison's Montpelier is four miles west.

Across its 3.4 square miles, the work is town work: century-old white oaks and poplars over roofs and service drops, red maples and Leylands crowding newer homes, and dead ash on older streets. Orange has its own town code, so a street tree starts with the town office. It caps our US-15 run through Rapidan.

Why a Culpeper Crew Comes to Orange

What Orange Gets With Us

Thirty Minutes Down US-15

Orange is a straight run south on the highway and we make it without a trip charge. Danielle groups Orange with Rapidan and Unionville work so estimates come quickly.

Century-Old Street Trees

Oaks and poplars planted with Orange's older houses now hang over roofs, sidewalks and power drops. The utility hears from us first, and every limb is roped clear of the lines.

Dead Ash on the Older Blocks

Ash that died years ago is too brittle to climb. It comes down from the bucket while the wood still holds, and every chip leaves with us.

A Town With Its Own Code

Orange writes its own ordinances, separate from Culpeper's and from Orange County's. A tree wholly on your lot is your call; for a tree over a town street we suggest a quick call to the town office first.

What Orange Homeowners Ask

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Orange?

We found no home-lot tree permit, but Orange keeps its own town code. A tree over a town street or sidewalk means a call to the town office first, and street, sidewalk and burning rules much like Culpeper's are typical. More in our permits guide.
