Tree Removal in the County Seat, Madison, VA

Madison is the county seat of Madison County, Virginia, a town of about 200 people 17.1 road miles and 25 minutes southwest of Culpeper, where US-29 Business and Route 231 share Main Street. The 1829 courthouse anchors a National Register historic district.

At about 604 feet in the Blue Ridge foothills, Madison gets more weather: ice loads trees harder than in Culpeper, and the western ridges carry chestnut oak, red oak and hickory on thin, rocky soil. In town, old white oaks and poplars shade roofs and sidewalks along Main Street. Madison has its own town code, so a street tree starts with the town office. It is the far end of our US-29 run.

Why a Culpeper Crew Comes to Madison

What Madison Gets With Us

Twenty-Five Minutes Southwest

Madison is the far end of our US-29 run and we make it without a trip charge. Danielle groups Madison with Brightwood and Leon work so the estimate date stays quick.

Foothill Ice

Ice storms off the Blue Ridge load Madison's trees before Culpeper's. White pines and poplars lose tops first; we take the broken wood and the leaners and leave what is sound.

Main Street Rigging

Main Street's old oaks and poplars hang over roofs, sidewalks and service drops. Each piece is roped and lowered, and street-side work gets booked early in the day, while traffic is light.

A Town With Its Own Code

Madison writes its own ordinances, separate from Culpeper's and from the county's. A tree wholly on your lot is your call; for a tree over a town street we suggest a quick call to the town office first.

What Madison Homeowners Ask

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Madison?

We found no home-lot tree permit, but Madison keeps its own town code. A tree over a town street or sidewalk means a call to the town office first, and street, sidewalk and burning rules much like Culpeper's are typical. More in our permits guide.
