Local & Insured
Brightwood is a census-designated community of about 1,060 people in Madison County, Virginia, 12.5 road miles and 19 minutes south of Culpeper on US-29. First counted on its own in the 2010 census, it is now one of the larger places between Culpeper and Madison.
The Robinson River runs 34 miles from Shenandoah National Park to the Rapidan and drains this area of newer homes on old pasture and working cattle farms. Oaks line the fence rows, poplar fills the draws, red maples crowd the newer houses, and Leyland screens lean in every wet snow. It shares our US-29 run with Leon and Madison, so almost any week works.

Why a Culpeper Crew Comes to Brightwood
Brightwood is a straight run down US-29 and we are through here on the way to Madison. Danielle groups Brightwood with Leon and Madison estimates so dates come quickly.
Red maples and Leyland cypress planted with the newer homes grow fast and were set too close to the house. We take the ones over the roof and the septic field and prune the rest back to a safe distance.
The white oaks left from the pasture are the best trees in Brightwood, and the biggest. We take dead limbs and hazard wood first and only recommend removal when the trunk or roots have failed.
Brightwood is unincorporated and falls under Madison County. A tree on your own land is your decision; for land clearing we check with the Madison County building office first and tell you what applies.
We found none for a private tree. Brightwood is unincorporated, so Madison County ordinances apply, and its erosion rules follow the same Virginia program as Culpeper's. Ask the Madison County planning or building office before large clearing, and mind the 4 PM Burning Law in spring. More in our permits guide.
If a Leyland cypress row on your Brightwood lot is leaning after the last wet snow or a red maple has outgrown the house, call or ask for a free estimate. Storm damage gets an answer the same day or the next; routine work is usually booked within a week or two.
