Rapidan is a small village on both banks of the Rapidan River, in Culpeper and Orange counties, Virginia, 12.9 road miles and 23 minutes south of Culpeper. It grew around the Waugh's Ford mill in the late 1700s. The railroad arrived in 1854, the Willis mill from about 1772 burned in the Civil War, and in 1987 the Rapidan Historic District, 35 contributing buildings on 182 acres including Emmanuel Episcopal and Waddell Memorial Presbyterian, was listed.
