Garrett Poole grew up on a cattle farm off Route 3 near Stevensburg. Before starting Piedmont Tree Care Co., he spent five seasons on a storm-cleanup and line-clearance crew across Culpeper, Fauquier and Madison counties.

Line work taught him how a tulip poplar's long leaders fail in a summer storm, how a century-old white oak can be hollow behind good bark, and how to take a tree apart between a house and a service drop. The lesson that stuck: rig first, then cut.

He started the company in Culpeper in 2017 with one bucket truck and a chipper. He still lives in the county. We are a crew from here, not a Metro DC company with a service-area page.

Today we are a crew of four. Our ground is rolling pasture between the Blue Ridge and the fall line, with the Rappahannock to the north and east, the Rapidan to the south, and Mountain Run feeding Lake Pelham and Mountain Run Lake. Red clay over rock sits under most of it, sticky when wet and brick-hard when dry.

Our Work, and Where It Stops

Our work is removal, stump grinding, trimming and land clearing, for homeowners and farm owners around Culpeper. Mowing, bed mulch, landscaping and commercial contracts are not on our list. Ask us about something else and we will point you elsewhere.

Our Why

Where We Came From

Too many county homeowners had two choices: a big outfit driving down US-29 after a storm, quoting high and leaving brush in the yard, or an uninsured operator with a chainsaw dropping a poplar and hoping it missed the well house.

Garrett wanted a third choice. A backyard removal gets the same care as a tree lying in a service drop: sectioned, rigged and priced honestly. Small, insured and local is the whole plan.

The Way We Work

Read the Tree

White oak, tulip poplar, Leyland cypress and dead ash all break differently, and soaked clay loosens a root plate. We check from roots to crown before we suggest a thing.

Rig Every Time

Garrett or Luis walks each property before a plan is set. Near a house, barn or service drop, the rigging goes up first. Nobody here gets rushed through a cut.

Straight Answers

The price is written before any work. A borer-killed ash over the driveway, we will tell you to take down. An old chestnut oak leaning at the pasture since before the fence, we will tell you to keep.

Nothing Left Behind

Trunk, limbs, brush and chips all go. The town needs a permit for any fire and skips pickup of anything over 4 inches thick, so it leaves on our truck.
